Goosefoot is an annual weed that is often grown (or gathered) as a potherb. You have to be careful, though, because when young the plant can be confused with some species of Solanum. As the plant matures it is easier to identify.
This plant can be easily controlled by pulling or hoeing, as long as you get it before it goes to seed.
It's likely you've seen this edible weed; maybe you even grow it as a potherb. Be careful, though - when young it's leaves are awfully similar to a "deadly" look-alike. The common name for this plant doesn't help much in identifying it, I'm afraid.
